A Growing Church in a Growing Town

Coronavirus update and suspension of church activities

To all at Ashford Baptist Church,

Following the UK Government’s new advice regarding coronavirus given on Monday, various national churches (including the Baptist Union) issued their responses yesterday.  As a result of all this, the Leadership Team/Diaconate at ABC have decided as follows:

  1. To suspend all church activities and meetings with immediate effect and until further notice.  This includes Life Groups, Open Church, Seniors (Coffee Morning, Lite Bite, Lunch Club), and Youthwork.  Also all meetings at Boughton Chapel (Sundays and midweek) and of the Nepalese Fellowship.
  2. To suspend all Sunday services until further notice.  However, we will be putting together some form of worship that can be accessed online, the details of which are being worked out and will be communicated within the next few days.  But please do not come to church.
  3. To suspend all external groups from using the building until further notice.
  4. Pastoral care.  We are aware that for some of us, the next few weeks/months will be especially difficult.  As well as encouraging everyone to be mindful of the needs of others, and to offer appropriate help in accordance with strict government guidelines, we will be co-ordinating a response as a church.  Lorna and Rob will be returning home early from holiday to help organise this, and more information will be sent out in the next few days.

We know that there will be many questions going through everyone’s minds at the moment, but as the situation is unfolding so rapidly it is important that we begin by being clear about what we are not going to do as a church, and then to work through what we can appropriately do in the weeks/months ahead.

Since the beginning of the year we have been exploring the subject of the household of God in all our various shapes and sizes.  We couldn’t have possibly imagined the position we now find ourselves in, but it does give us the opportunity to demonstrate the love and care of Jesus for one another (and also for those beyond the church community).

May the sovereign, compassionate and almighty God hold us all in the palm of his hand, and may we uphold one another in our prayers.

Yours in Christ,

The ABC Leadership Team
