A Growing Church in a Growing Town

Letter from the Manse – God walks ahead of us and alongside us

Dear Church Family,

As I walk around Ashford, there is something in the air of a season opening up, of a new spaciousness, colour, movement and tentative plans. One can hear the birds loudly at dawn and dusk, hear the sounds of DIY and lawn mowers, indicating a season of activity, growth, and busyness after winter.  And in the church building too, there is a sense of pushing on with the renewal work, decorating and fire remedial work, so that we are ready to re-open for Sunday Services [in a covid secure way], on Sunday 30th May.  We may welcome this new season or not.  However we respond, we know God walks ahead of us and alongside of us in our life of pilgrimage which we are called to make.

I know some at ABC are doing a virtual trek, where the miles we walk or run each day, are taken as part of a virtual route – my trek is Lands’ End to John O’Groats.

I have begun and I am around Oxford now, and the aim is to finish it by the end of the year!

All of us are called and drawn to follow Jesus, to take each step along the way trusting that “Jesus the Way” is alongside us and ahead of us, shedding light, enabling us to inch forward, or even just to be able to stand to stay on our feet, to give us the inner resources that though our heart and flesh may fail us, yet God is the strength of our lives. So fellow pilgrims on the life journey with Jesus our friend and helper, together we look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12…we are the joy that was set before Jesus, human beings created in God’s image loved eternally. So, in this season experience again the vision of Jesus and all he has done and is doing for us.  May we be strengthened as we clock up the miles in our heavenly journey.

Every blessing in Christ,

Lorna
