A Growing Church in a Growing Town

Social Action

Winter Night Shelter.  Ashford Baptist is a host venue for the Ashford Churches Winter Night Shelter (ACWNS), which runs each year for 3 months from mid-December to mid-March. For one night each week (usually a Saturday) we provide a safe place, friendship, a hot meal, bed for the night, and light breakfast for up to 17 guests.  These men and women would otherwise be sleeping rough on the streets of Ashford or on a friend’s floor or sofa.  Teams of volunteers from the church staff each night, and find it both rewarding and moving to be able to offer something as simple as this to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Street Pastors.  Street Pastors is a well-known national organisation that brings a safe Christian presence onto the streets of Ashford on Friday and Saturday nights. Working alongside the police and other agencies, it offers friendship and practical help to anyone out late, especially young people in the pubs and clubs.  A team of volunteers is drawn from the churches in town, including some from ABC.  We are also the office base and operational hub on those nights the Pastors are out on duty.

KRAN (Kent Refugee Action Network) works with vulnerable (and often traumatised) young people who have come to the UK either as refugees or seeking asylum. We as a church host a group twice a week for English language and life skills lessons.
